The Orange County Tax Collector will now accept same-sex marriage certificates for anyone wishing to update their driver’s licenses and IDs after a recent ruling that paves the way for same-sex marriage in the state.
The Florida judge who ruled the ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional has responded to questions about his ruling.
Same-sex marriage certificates from Florida and other states will be accepted for couples who are updating their IDs with name changes, the office announced Friday.
Judge Robert Hinkle said Thursday that all Florida clerks of court who refuse to issue same-sex marriage licenses would be in violation of the U.S. Constitution.
Before the ruling, the state didn’t allow tax collectors to use same-sex certificates as valid documents, a statement from the Orange County Tax Collector said.
