Orange County Tax Collector

Tax Deadline Approaching for Orange County Businesses

Business Tax Receipts Expire September 30th

Orange County Tax Collector Scott Randolph is reminding local business owners and professionals that the County’s Business Tax Receipt expires Saturday, September 30, 2017. To avoid penalties and fees, which will be imposed beginning on October 1, businesses should renew their Business Tax Receipt online at octaxcol.cbmstage.com. New businesses can apply for their Business Tax Receipt in person at the Tax Department, SunTrust Building, 200 South Orange Ave., 16th Floor in downtown Orlando.

Most businesses in Orange County are required to pay a business tax, which is imposed by the Orange County Board of County Commissioners, to engage in or manage any business, profession, or occupation within Orange County and its municipalities. Upon payment, the Tax Collector issues a Business Tax Receipt which must be displayed on the business’s premise in plain view of customers.

During Fiscal Year 2015-16, the Tax Collector issued 75,170 Business Tax Receipts, collecting $4,152,818 in revenue for the county.

In addition to the county business tax, the Orange County cities of Apopka, Belle Isle, Eatonville, Edgewood, Maitland, Oakland, Ocoee, Orlando, Windermere, Winter Garden and Winter Park issue local Business Tax Receipts. All businesses operating in these municipalities must obtain a Local Business Tax Receipt prior to obtaining an Orange County Business Tax Receipt.

After the September 30 deadline, delinquent business taxes are subject to a $250 civil penalty plus court and attorney fees and the following monthly penalties:

  • October 1 – 10% penalty
  • November 1 – 15% penalty
  • December 1 – 20% penalty
  • January 1 – 25% penalty
